If you’ve recently logged into your BigRock Linux Hosting cPanel console, you must have noticed a new section called ‘Health Checks and Monitoring’. We’ve added this new feature so that customers can benefit from a free Hosting Health Check report that will give you a detailed view of how your web hosting package is performing.
So what does this Health Check feature include? Essentially two features – Heath Stats and Inode Distribution
Health Stats – You can use this utility to check the health of your Hosting package. The utility will perform checks of all the crucial services associated with your Hosting package, and help you troubleshoot any issues. The Health Stats are divided into various components that provide you detailed information such as-
1. Scripts & emails
2. DNS settings for your domains – This includes the various records – A records, MX records and NS records.
3. Creation/Deletion of new Databases & Users
4. Connections with existing databases
Inode Distribution – Lets begin with what is an inode . An Inode (or index node) is created whenever you upload a file to the web hosting, i.e. if you upload a file in your blog or website, a inode is created which contains information of your file.
Whenever you exceed these inode limits, we will alert you to remove some files from your hosting account, or we may recommend that you upgrade to a VPS or a Dedicated server ( coming soon). If you ignore this alert, your hosting account maybe disabled.
In order to reduce the number of inodes your account uses, you should:
– Remove all files/folders you don’t need – there may be some backup files/folders placed outside your public_html web root folder or situated inside it which are generated by an extension installed inside your website application, i.e. Akeeba backup. If you need some of these files you can download them locally on your computer through FTP and after that remove them from your hosting account.
– Check the number of cache files you have – applications such as Joomla can generate a lot of cache files which increase the amount of inodes in your hosting account. You should regularly check your cache folder and reduce the number of cached files you store. Most of the applications that cache content have a Purge cache functionality inside their administrative area which can be used to clear such files.
If you can’t figure out why you have a large number of inodes, you can get in touch with our Support Team and they will gladly help you J
